Over 80% of residents like our parks and open spaces

Attractive, clean and sustainable public spaces make people feel better about the place where they live and work. And Southwark is the cleanest it has ever been. Through continued investment, the area has moved from fourth dirtiest borough to fourth cleanest in 2004 in London – a position we’ve maintained every year since.

A green borough isn’t just about cleaning litter and graffiti of course. We work with partners to cut carbon emissions, improve air quality and recycling, and reduce the use of waste and water.

We also encourage residents to enjoy local parks - a number of green spaces in Southwark have been given green flag awards. Southwark has been chosen by the Mayor to receive a £2million investment in Burgess Park. It will be combined with £4million linked to the Aylesbury Estate regeneration, to make up a £6 million investment.

Undoubtedly, there is more of a sense of pride around the borough. Our most recent Southwark residents’ survey showed most of our residents love Southwark as a place to live. We think you’ll be more that pleased with it as a place to work.
